A day of the elements over in Macclesfield with sub-zero temperatures, snow, and a lot of mud.

A great day for Rugby then!!!

A strong 15 men of Marple started with some rouge positions seeing Tight Head Prop Rio Baily displaying his speed and skills on the wing. Marple started on the back foot while trying to get some traction in the match. The Macc XV started strong with an early try and gave them a 7-point lead that stunned the travellers.

Macclesfield 7 – 0 Marple

This early try kicked the travellers into gear, who then started putting heavy pressure on the home side. The match opened with end-to-end stuff both sides showing rugby. The penalty count stacking up both sides started to have opportunities for points however Terrible conditions underfoot did not help for the travellers as the Marple’s kicker struggled to be clinical from the tee.

Marple under pressure soon leads to a small slip up that led to a silly penalty for the home side. Macclesfield converted the kick.

Macclesfield 10 – 0 Marple

Marple soon found the rhythm in the game and started to put pressure on the home side again. A big carry Marple Second row Jamie Grout asked questions that could be answered by the home side. Tylee Converts the extra points.

Macclesfield 10 – 7 Marple

The home side didn’t let this try go unanswered with another quick converted Try to open up the lead and ask more questions of the travellers.

Macclesfield 17 – 7 Marple

The games continued with end-to-end stuff and Marple edging the game and holding firm in the home side 22. A slip of discipline from the stand-out number 8 for Macclesfield soon found him off for a 10 minute to cool down for an unnecessary tackle off the ball on a Marple youngster.

Five minutes to go for the half end, the home side down to 14 men and pended back Marple piled on the pressure. A big carry of Prop Dave Thornley who unfortunately found himself help up over the line.

Half time, Macclesfield 17 – 7 Marple

The second half begins with Marple holding the one-man advantage, which they soon found themself taking full advantage of with a Try from Adam Suppan to close the gap. Tylee misses the conversion the game down to 5 points.

Macclesfield 17 – 12 Marple

The home side was under the cosh and the frustration started to show in the penalty count the ref had no choice but to send one of the home sides to the bin.

Macc was down to 14 for the second time in the game and Marple with their tales up soon started to pile on the pressure and force the mistakes from the home side. The skilled footwork from James young of Marple soon found themselves ahead for the first time in the game. Tylee converts!!

Macclesfield 17 – 19 Marple

The travellers now firing and in the lead. The 15 men of Marple Piled on the pressure and Marple 10 kicked them into the corners.

A quick line out and a bit of good fortune soon found the ball drop into the hands of recking ball Rob Smith. To his amazement, the field parted and the 40-yard one-man march finished with what looked to be the try of the game. Tylee misses the conversion.

Macclesfield 17 –24 Marple

The last five minutes of the game was a roller coaster both teams to full strength, soon found a lovely, weighted kick from the home side drop onto the Marple try line. The foot race was on. Winger Ryan Gill saves the day for Marple and wins the foot race to clean up the loose ball.

Two minutes on the clock and Marple stretched Macc found the hole in the defence and score to close the lead. The Macc 10 couldn’t convert to tie the game and missed the conversion.

Macclesfield 22 – 24 Marple

The last play called, Macc with the ball in hand and Marple soaking up the pressure and holding good discipline soon caused a moment of madness. Macclesfield kicked the ball over the top to the Marple back three who cleared the ball of the pitch and end the game for a tough Marple win.
