Marple travelled the short distance to local rivals Glossop after a week of rain but were pleased to see bright sunshine despite the difficult high-ball conditions it presented.
The first half was an excellent showing for the red and blacks, scoring four good tries with a variety of moves. First a short drive from Niall, then Eric spotted a gap wide after joining in from full-back as Marple moved into a lead. Tyler cut inside and managed to evade a number of tackles, before Eric raced through for his second of the morning. Isaac B was superb from the tee, slotting home all four conversions from a variety of angles.
Second half was a different story as Glossop responded, playing some good rugby and being much more competitive at scrum and breakdown. After a lop-sided Marple kick chase, Glossop spotted a gap down the Marple right, and despite a despairing cover tackle, the offload and support was good and Glossop registered a try by the posts for a simple conversion.
The match was played out in the Marple 22 with some resilient defending and Glossop pressure, and ended with the final score at 7-28 to the visitors.
Marple move on to the Cheshire Cup next weekend with a well-deserved break the following week and no doubt a few weary bodies going on holiday!
